Recently renovated (Aug 2023) studio set on the dunes at majestic Emu Bay. Only a few steps and you are on the pristine white sands where you can enjoy a beach walk, swim or try your luck at fishing.
Rumah Pantai is set amongst native vegetation and is home to penguins, assorted bird life, goannas and the occasional koalas.
The outdoor deck is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beach activities during the day or enjoy the moonlight reflecting over the water by night.

One of only a few absolute beachfront properties at Emu Bay "Rumah Pantai" ( Beach House in Indonesian ) is the last standing example of the original Beach Shacks built by the farmers on Kangaroo Island over 50 years ago. Fully renovated it has been designed to encompass it's natural surroundings and create tranquility much as is found in Bali.
Nestled in the trees the studio is protected from wind most of the time and the views are of sea, beach and bush.
Penguins nest under the front deck, birds are attracted by the bird bath and surrounding vegetation and a goanna lives close by and visits (They are not timid but will not attack you! ) The occasional koala will camp out for a night in either the back or front trees. Echidnas dig around, especially in Autumn and Winter, in the surrounding bushland.
The private rock path through the trees allows direct access to the 5 km long beach which is ideal for long walks. People also drive their cars along the beach to find their own private area for swimming or picnics.
The jetty and boat ramp has its group of resident pelicans. Fishing off the jetty or beach are popular activities. There is a children's playground close by.

Only 15 minutes to the main town, Kingscote making Emu Bay an ideal base.

Winter and Autumn are beautiful times when the beach changes, shore birds are more abundant and the proximity to the sea makes temperatures mild.

Minimal public transport on Kangaroo Island.

You can fly from Adelaide and hire a car or book your own car on the Sealink ferry.

Kingscote has all the facilities of a rural town.

There are no shops in Emu Bay.

Please note this is a studio with a sofa bed as the second bed, located in the new open living area.
Studio unsuitable for toddlers. Infants and children are welcome.
The fairy penguins come and go throughout the year, and make themselves at home around the property & sand dunes. They can be noisy during the evening. We supply ear plugs in the event they are too noisy for you.
